"Were I called on to define, very briefly, the term Art, I should call it the reproduction of what the Senses perceive in Nature through the veil of the soul." - Edgar Allan Poe

Today is the day I'm finishing up some paintings that have lain around my studio for the last few weeks just waiting for the right time to arrive.
This is Newbury Street in Boston... always a great place to visit, stroll along and window shop or stop at one of the outdoor eateries for a drink, or meal on a lovely summer day.

I finally finished this portrait of my darling great niece, Eve.   It took me awhile to get back on board. I think I was afraid I'd ruin it as it was coming along so well.... artists sometimes get to that point in a painting (or at least I do), especially when its going well and you're really invested in it, when fear of mucking it up takes over.  I usually put my brush down and take a rest and start again another day. Which is exactly what I did here and I think it paid off.
Although I feel I haven't quite done her justice (she's gorgeous and adorable with her english accent), I'm pretty pleased with the painting.  I have so many great photos of Eve from her visit this past spring that I'm sure you'll be seeing more of her :)
Please feel free to hit the comment button and give me your thoughts on these paintings.  I love hearing from all my friends out there.

Well.... I finally returned to this painting.  It's finished but I will visit this scene again as I'm not entirely happy with the outcome.   I do like the overall glow, the white roofs and the sparkle in the mountains as the sun breaks through, behind the village. I changed the windows in the building at the front right of the painting as they looked a bit like eyes looking out at me :)
Although I like the misty mountains, I think I will put the mountain tops and some sky in the next painting.....
